Apprentice scheme has seen staff rise through the ranks at Spirax Sarco

Spirax Sarco Ltd employs more than 1,000 people in Cheltenham across a range of Engineering and Supply Chain disciplines.

To enable the business to develop, grow and service the varied customer base, the company needs highly skilled people, and uses a number of ways to maintain and develop these skills.

has its own structured apprenticeship scheme, and has recruited, trained and employed apprentices for decades in Cheltenham and continues to do so.

And it is this belief in apprentices that has seen them back the , opting to sponsor the Outstanding Apprentice of the Year (Health, Wellbeing, Care and Education) category.

The GloucestershireLive Apprenticeship Awards are a celebration of the best and brightest learners as well as the people who are helping them to succeed.

The awards celebrate the achievements of apprentices across such a wide range of businesses, trades and professions and highlight the depth of talent and skill in Gloucestershire. The glittering awards event will be held on Wednesday, October 13.

Many companies realise that the best way to meet their skills needs is to train more apprentices and ensure that future leaders are skilled and ready to take on the challenge.

Spirax Sarco has opted to sponsor the Outstanding Apprentice of the Year (Health, Wellbeing, Care & Education) category this year, with a spokesman adding: "Sponsoring this award is an indication of the regard Spirax Sarco has for this sector and how important attracting and developing talent here is to wider society."

Judges will be looking for entries which showcase the impact an apprentice has had on the organisation they work for, as well as evidence of personal self-development and progression.

Throughout the judging process, judges will be looking for an apprentice who is able to demonstrate a passion for their chosen apprenticeship.

A number of former apprentices from Spirax Sarco have gone on to some very important roles within the business including manager director, highlighting the importance and value that the business places on these types of training programmes.

A spokesman said: "Spirax Sarco has chosen to sponsor Outstanding Apprentice of the Year (Health, Wellbeing, Care and Education) as this sector is an essential part of our society, our economy and offers excellent early career opportunities.

"If not prominent enough, over the last two years this sector has been pivotal directly and indirectly in the ongoing fight against Covid-19."
