The search is one for the golden stars of our green economy.
Humber Renewables Awards 2020 launched last month, with eight accolades to light up a night of celebration.
And 2019’s Humber Renewables Champion - Emma Toulson - has told of the emotion she felt when she was crowned in front of her peers.
The lead stakeholder advisor for Ørsted had her “unflinching focus on helping shape the Energy Estuary” rewarded.
Emma said: “I felt so humbled to receive the award of Humber Renewables Champion last year. The Humber Renewables Awards have been such a profile raiser in the region with so many worth winners over the years and for me, I was so appreciative to receive such recognition. I can only hope that this year’s winner has the same experience.”
Born in Grimsby, her dad worked in the oil and gas industry, so the family story follows that of the energy sector as it goes from black to green. They left for Kent, but Emma returned to read geography in Hull.
She worked in a renewables-focused economic development dual role for North East Lincolnshire Council and Humber Local Enterprise Partnership before joining Orsted as Humber lead stakeholder.
Emma took that role to a national level, working on the deal announced two months prior to last year’s ceremony.

The citation, read by headline sponsor Siemens Gamesa’s operations manager Helen Villamuera, told how there are “very few people in the 海角视频, let alone the Humber, who have a more rounded knowledge of the offshore wind sector than the 2019 Humber Renewables Champion ”.
“She has laid much of the groundwork for where the Energy Estuary is today, working across the public and private sector to deliver projects, strategies and - more recently - being a key contributor in the recently published Offshore Wind Sector Deal,” she added.
Ørsted, the global leader in offshore wind, has recently been ranked as the ‘most sustainable company in the world’. It has a strong presence in the Humber where the company is building the world’s largest offshore wind farms and is proud to be part of the growing Humber Cluster on the Energy Estuary.
This year it is backing the event. Miss Toulson said: “Ørsted is delighted to sponsor the small business category of the Humber Renewable Awards as many small businesses have supported our growth and operation in the Humber over the past six years.”
On stage before her in 2019, Grimsby Institute’s Mechanical Operations Electrical Technician course saw it take the Excellence in Renewable Skills and Training Award; Drax’s carbon capture pilot was named Green Innovation; University of Hull and industry-backed Aura picked up the Renewables in Education award; Hobson & Porter was celebrated for the flagship £14 million East Coast Hub it has brought forward for Orsted as Best Renewable Energy Project; Grimsby Renewables Partnership won the Engaging the Community Award on the back of a hugely successful 2019 conference at which the sector deal brokering was revealed; James Fisher Marine Services was awarded the Medium / Large Business of the Year having secured a major contract with Triton Knoll and established a permanent base in Grimsby; GEV Group’s Sophie Marsden won the Women in Manufacturing or Engineering award.
