All smiles as top toothpaste research firm relocates to Plymouth

Modus Laboratories has worked with leading pharma firms and universities but is leaving the Home Counties for a better quality of life

Richard Willson, founder of Modus Laboratories

A research company which works with the world’s largest pharmaceutical firms and most prestigious universities to test top brand toothpastes has relocated to Plymouth from the South East.

Modus Laboratories is a contract research business for the oral healthcare industry, testing materials, formulations and treatments as well as designing formulations and formulation development.

The company works with multinational companies and academic institutions such as Unilever, GlaxoSmithKline, Proctor and Gamble, Denterapy, OBJ, National Physical Laboratory, and the universities of Cambridge, Kent, Queen Mary, Reading, Portsmouth and Edinburgh.

It is shifting to from Reading to avoid congested daily commutes and seek a better quality of life while still taking advantage of a top-class science park.

Modus was founded in 2009 by Richard Willson when he sensed a need for an independent specialist in oral healthcare research and development.

The company he grew combines scientific discovery with customer-focused R&D and continues to grow and adapt to the demands of the industry world wide.

A number of toothpaste formulations currently available have come through Modus Laboratories where they test the efficacy claims and send them off with the stamp of “tested by scientists”.

Exciting new products, which are still in development, will be hitting the shelves soon, such as Dentherapy Toothboost, which Modus has designed, developed and patented a novel active ingredient and novel method for application.
