Dog owners in Hull are in for a treat with a new all-natural groomers and pet shop right on their doorstep.
is a family-run animal care business in South Cave, Brough, that specialises in pet supplements, high-quality raw dog food and natural treats, as well as grooms using botanical shampoos and even a ‘pet bakery’.
The all-natural groomer and dog product stockist, which is under 30 minutes by car from Hull, is currently in the running for our sister site TeamDogs’ , in partnership with PocketVet.

And despite having only been nominated last week, Gallipots has already racked up 66 votes, putting it among the top 10 best new dog-friendly businesses in Britain, according to TeamDogs users.

To learn more about the unique grooming and pet supplies provider, spoke to co-owner and founder James May, who hopes to turn Gallipots into the ‘Holland & Barrett of animal care’ one day.
Gallipots was launched by pet care professionals James and his wife Lindsay May, who each have more than 20 years’ experience working at a large pet care and dog training company, in September 2020.
The pair, who met at their previous job 22 years ago and launched Gallipots on their wedding anniversary, used their life savings, as well as an enterprise loan from Hull and Humber Chamber of Commerce, to fund the unique dog-friendly business.
A bricks-and-mortar storefront in Market Place, South Cave, later joined the in January 2021.
Speaking on the name, James explained to : “Gallipots were historically used by apothecaries to hold medicine, anointment, so on, so, that ties in with our natural supplements and treatments.

“It’s as natural as you can keep things.
“Every dog is going to have some intolerance or allergy to ingredients, natural or chemical-based, but generally chemicals can have parabens and things like that.”
As well causing irritation, chemical-based products can also lead to health concerns in dogs when absorbed through the skin barrier.
James added: “We want to do our job right.
“Customer experience is the most important thing – and dogs are our customers.”
Both the shop and website sell a range of natural, fragrance-free pet grooming products and accessories by the likes of , plus raw dog food and treats, as well as freshly baked homemade dog biscuits from , available in flavours like ‘Apple Pie’, ‘Turkey and Cranberry’, ‘Charcoal’ and ‘Sweet Potato and Banana’.
From slippery elm tree bark powder for digestive issues to pectin for the colon, there’s also numerous natural herbal supplements, vitamins and minerals, all aimed at supporting pet’s health and wellbeing.
These can be browsed by condition, whether that’s anxiety, liver, joints and mobility or skin and coat.
James commented to : “We would never overrule, never diagnose, anything, but certainly once they have that diagnosis, we can find the best products.”
James is currently studying to become a registered animal medical advisor so that Gallipots can advise on prescription-based medicines as well.
In addition, express, full and walk-in , plus three ‘special treatments’, are all offered onsite.
Special treatments include a coconut oil massage, botanical shampoo, and revitalising conditioning treatment – each costs £5, though there is currently a 50 per cent off offer until Tuesday, November 30.
According to James, Gallipots also has plans to expand its ‘pet bakery’ to include more homemade bakes from the couple’s 12-year-old daughter, Elodie.
James added: “She loves animals and she's a keen baker.
“We want to make it a complete family business as much as possible, so we want to make sure our children are invested.
“We don't want to push them into the business but if that's something they’re keen on doing, we'd love to do that in the future.”
James and Lindsay also have a son called Jacob and nine-year-old Jack Russell Chip.
Despite the trials and tribulations of the pandemic, the standout family-run pet care company has already grown its team to an impressive six, as well as established a loyal customer base.
James explained to : “We've got some fantastic customers, which we’re very, very grateful for.
“It's been a very difficult year for many people, especially businesses.
“Last year, everybody was held up to a degree, so it's just nice to be around people again.”
Another TeamDogs user also spoke highly of the brand, saying: “I’ve known the owners to look after our family pets for as long as I can remember, then taking this massive plunge, and with Covid!
“To press on and commit to the aims, it’s outstanding.
“My pooch went just as they had opened after a long battle to open and all they wanted was to do what they do best.
