Typhoo Tea has issued an update ahead of the company closing its "ageing" blending and packing site on Merseyside.

In March, BusinessLive reported that the firm was to shut down its site in Moreton in June with the loss of up to 90 jobs.

At the time, Typhoo Tea it was "actively exploring" options for a new site and re-employment, but added that it will be at least one year before a suitable location is ready.

The company added that the people who remain in the business would relocate to a hub to oversee the day-to-day management of the restructured organisation.

Now, Typhoo Tea has confirmed the Moreton site will close on July 6 while 85 people will be made redundant.

It also confirmed that its new hub will officially open in Birkenhead on July 3.

Typhoo Tea was taken over by Zetland Capital Partners in July 2021. The company's brands also include Glengettie, Ridgeways, Heath & Heather, London Fruit & Herb, Lift, Melroses, Freshbrew and Red Mountain.
