Builders’ merchant Travis Perkins is set to relocate one of its branches in Bristol to a larger site and more than double its staff.

The chain will move its St Phillips outlet from Albert Road to a new location approximately one mile north up St Phillips Causeway on Days Road.

The company said the new site, which will open on February 7, is 2.7 acres in size - 1.7 acres bigger than the previous.

It added that the Albert Road branch’s 11-strong team would transfer to the new site, where it had recruited for an additional 15 new jobs - taking its total headcount to 26.

Travis Perkins said half of the newly created roles had been filled by women in what it said was a traditionally male-dominated industry.

The Days Road site will be among the company’s first to pilot the firm's ambitions to reduce carbon emissions by 90% across its operations, and will be equipped with charging points for its fleet of electric forklift trucks.

The store will include a showroom for the group’s Benchmarx kitchen brand, a hard-landscaping display and a new tool-hire facility for customers.

Branch manager Simon Brierley said: “The opening of our new branch at Bristol St. Philips is another step in Travis Perkins ambitions to become a net-zero carbon producer.
