Telensa and LIGMAN team together to provide smart street lighting overseas

The technology is being invented in Cambridge and will be used across Asia and Oceania

Keith Henry, APAC sales manager at Telensa and Sakchai Manawongsakul, LIGMAN president and group CEO shake hands after signing a partnership agreement

A partnership agreement to combine aesthetic LED lights with wireless controls was signed last week.

Cambridge-based Telensa, which manufactures streetlight infrastructure, and LIGMAN, which provides lighting solutions, are working together in a new partnership to provide smart street lighting, as of December 13.

With energy and carbon reduction increasingly in the forefront of many cities’ agendas, switching lighting to LED, which use less energy, is the next step.

Including wireless controls maximises the benefits of LEDs, generating further energy and maintenance cost-savings, and future-proofing further smart city sensing.

Though the technology has been invented here in Cambridge, it will be used in parts of Asia and Oceania.

Telensa chief commercial officer Will Gibson said: “Cities across Asia Pacific are increasingly adopting wireless controls.

“Over the past couple of years Telensa has deployed smart street lighting in Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere.

“Partnering with LIGMAN will satisfy the industry’s need for high-end luminaires and wireless controls in a market where true commitment is being shown to the promise of smart city technologies.”
