Seafood restaurant comes home for Young's as Gastro brand rings up £72m sales

New product launches come as customers tighten belts on out-of-home spending

Young's Seafood has introduced Scottish Mussels in a Creamy Garlic & White Wine Sauce and Creamy Garlic Topped Cod Fillets to its Gastro range as sales soar.

Two new dishes have been added to Young’s Seafood’s Gastro range as it aims to help consumers bring the restaurant experience home.

The Grimsby-based market leader has added Scottish Mussels in Creamy Garlic and White Wine Sauce and Creamy Garlic Topped Cod Fillets to its premium brand. It comes after research found more than half of its customer base is cutting back on eating out due to the cost of living.

Last month it brought an XL battered fish to the kitchen table, in a first move to meet the demand.

The launches come at a time of the significant growth for Gastro, with sales up 17 per cent on pre-pandemic levels, accounting for sales of £72.5 million, and more than 900,000 new buyers.

Paul Craft, chief commercial officer for Young’s owner, Sofina Europe, said: “As consumers increasingly seek products that can recreate a dine out experience at home, we have looked to build on our position as the number one brand in premium fish by developing an expanded range that offers even more restaurant-style flavours at affordable prices.

“The introduction of our new Scottish Mussels and Garlic Topped Cod Fillets recipes to the Gastro range means we can offer consumers more choices to achieve that restaurant experience at home, at a time when many are having to cut back on the amount they dine out.”

With a recommended retail price of £4, and launching in Iceland stores, Scottish Mussels are rope-grown and served in a creamy sauce made with garlic and white wine. It has been described as “perfect when served as a main course alongside crusty bread for an at home date night”. The new recipe, which is the first shellfish product in the Gastro range, is microwaveable in seven minutes.
