A seafood company’s deal to import fish by-products looks set to create more jobs at its Grimsby facility.

Ideal Foods it to buy salmon heads, bellies and collars as it looks to increase its turnover.

The Cornish-headquartered company plans to import 5,000 tonnes of fish by-products per year from specialist Mowi - formerly Marine Harvest - with no shortage of demand for the new supply.

The deal will ensure there is minimal food waste from each fish, helping both companies to become more sustainable.

Tony Horner, managing director of Ideal Foods, said: “Over the last decade, we have been fortunate enough to see consistent year-on-year growth and in the last financial year, we achieved another company annual turnover record of £13.2 million.

“To enable us to continue on this growth trajectory, we had to increase our supply of products. This new partnership with Mowi has allowed us to do this.

“Despite these extremely challenging times, our company has continued to flourish. We have an extremely loyal and hard-working team of staff who have made this all possible.

“The increased stock availability will add pressure to our cold store in Grimsby. Therefore, we will be looking to increase the number of staff working in our Grimsby office in the very near future.
