A precision parts manufacturer established last year has opened a franchise factory in Exeter.

London-headquartered Isembard said the opening of the facility marked a "major milestone" in its plan to "re-industrialise the º£½ÇÊÓƵ".

The business, founded by entrepreneur and former reservist Alexander Fitzgerald, is aiming to create a distributed network of factories serving critical industries, including defence, aerospace and energy.

The new factory is led by engineering expert Shaun Rowcliffe, who is Isembard’s first franchisee and general manager, and has worked for some of Britain's top defence companies.

Mr Fitzgerald, who is also the company's chief executive, said: “Isembard Exeter is proof that Britain can build again. By combining cutting-edge machine tools, our proprietary MasonOS software, and a scalable franchise model, we’re turning local factories into a national advantage.”

Mr Rowcliffe added: “Having worked in defence engineering, I know how critical it is that the º£½ÇÊÓƵ has sovereign, high-precision manufacturing capacity. Launching Isembard Exeter allows us to bring world-class capability to the South West and strengthen supply chains across the country.”

The launch of Isembard Exeter is part of the company’s wider investment in º£½ÇÊÓƵ manufacturing.

Through its franchise model, Isembard plans to deploy dozens of distributed, software-driven factories across the º£½ÇÊÓƵ and allied nations - delivering "scalable industrial capacity to meet rising demand from critical sectors", Mr Fitzgerald added.
