The purchase will also see the creation of some 20 new jobs

Belfast electrical engineering company PAC Group is to create 20 new jobs after acquiring the assets of Barbour Engineering.

The purchase of the company’s plan and machinery, for an undisclosed sum, represents a £2 million investment in the Bangor-based sheet metal business which supplies the aerospace, utilities and manufacturing sectors.

It said it will “enhance” the shop floor and back-office systems and rebrand of the business, as well as employing on-site teams with specialisms in fit-out, welding and fabrication.

The opportunity to acquire the business arose when Barbour Engineering’s owner retired.

It will now operate as a subsidiary of PAC Group, complimenting its other eight divisions, Darren Leslie, PAC Group Business Director, said.

“We are excited by the prospects that lie in store to build on what has been done in the past, as well as what can be done to showcase the business’ capabilities,” he said. “Metal fabrication is more than just shaping steel and aluminium, but it is about deciding the right applications for it, and how they can be developed.”

“When the opportunity presented to us to acquire the equipment and create a new future for the Barbour Engineering brand it was a perfect complement to our existing eight engineering divisions.

He said the business will also focus on training the next generation of engineers.
