Pension schemes related to Norton Motorcycles are being investigated.

The Pensions Ombudsman said it was looking into a complaint from 30 individuals, relating to three pension schemes linked to the bike business.

It has emerged that the independent ombudsman is due to hold a public hearing in London on February 13 in relation to the complaint.

It said the complaint had been made against Norton owner Stuart Garner in his capacity as trustee of the Dominator 2012 Pension Scheme; the Donington MC Pension Scheme; and the Commando 2012 Pension Scheme.

It also relates “where applicable” to a company called LD Administration, which it said administered the schemes between 2014 to 2018.

Norton Motorcycles went into administration yesterday, putting the jobs of 100 people who work there at risk.

In recent months the business had faced a string of setbacks, including concerns raised by the auditors in its last set of accounts and a High Court case over hundreds of thousands of pounds owed to HMRC.

A crowdfunding scheme to raise £1 million – to meet an order book said to be worth £30 million and to spend on research – was pulled a few hours after it was launched last November after a single, high-value investor was said to have come forward.
