Automotive giant Nissan will bring back production to its Sunderland plant next month, though it will be on a phased basis at first.
The company shut down production at the factory at the end of March, though it brought back a small number of workers in its drivetrain division in April. The plant employs more than 6,000 people.
Nissan has now confirmed that it will resume production on June 8 with a single production line that can be used to make its Qashqai and Juke models.
It follows other automotive firms in making a phased return to work.
A Nissan spokesman said: “A phased resumption of vehicle production will begin at Nissan Sunderland Plant on Monday 8th June.
“This resumption has been made possible following extensive work at the plant to allow the safe return of our employees, with a full and comprehensive set of measures in place to protect staff.”
Nissan is following a number of other automotive and manufacturing companies in partially returning to work.

During the lockdown, Nissan has joined a project that aims to get 100,000 protective visors a week to NHS staff, and also set up a team in its training centre to make protective gowns for the NHS.
The shutdown in production came at a time of massive falls in demand for new cars, with a 97% drop in sales in April. The decline was the steepest of modern times, and is in line with similar falls across Europe.
