A company that makes, installs and maintains electrical switchgear and control panels has been praised for its actions to go green.

Ahead of world leaders gathering for the COP26 summit in Glasgow, the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s net zero champion has championed the actions being taken by Leicester manufacturer .

The former East Midlands Chamber and LeicestershireLive Business Awards winner has signed up to the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s SME Climate Commitment and taken action to reduce its emissions.

And yesterday Net Zero champion Andrew Griffith MP praised the efforts the Braunstone Frith business on his Twitter feed.

He said: “This small business based in #Leicester have committed to cutting their carbon emissions –taking climate action by installing 102kW of solar power on their factory roof and changing all lighting to LED bulbs to reduce their energy usage.”

Michael Smith Switchgear managing director Sean Smith said: “A lot of people are concerned that eco-friendly changes will cost a lot so they often do not do anything, but small actions can make a huge difference and actually save money.

“We have installed solar panels on our south-facing factory roof, changed all lighting to LED, as well as installing electric vehicle charge points.

“We are currently exploring the installation of a green roof on the area that we are unable to install solar panels on. Our new offices are extremely low energy use.”
