A Wolverhampton MP has hit out at Goodyear Dunlop plans to axe a factory – with 330 job losses – claiming it is “highly productive and profitable”.

The firm has announced plans to close its Wolverhampton factory – which would put an end to manufacturing in the West Midlands.

Goodyear Dunlop, previously a production giant in the region, has told workers it plans to close its mixing and retread facility “in response to changing market conditions”.

The proposals puts about 330 jobs under threat and comes after it an a consultation has already begun with employees.

Wolverhampton North East MP Emma Reynolds told the Post: “It is terrible news. I am calling on the company to reconsider its decision.

“My understanding is that the factory in Wolverhampton was both highly productive and profitable and therefore I am asking senior management to explain their actions.

“Generations of families in Wolverhampton have worked at Goodyear.

“It is an iconic Wolverhampton brand – we used to have the Goodyear Tower.
