More than 6,000 jobs to be created around Nissan's electric vehicle hub plans

The project has been launched with an initial £1bn investment by Nissan, Envision AESC and Sunderland City Council.

Jobs boost as Nissan to build new electric model and battery plant in º£½ÇÊÓÆµ

A pioneering electric vehicle hub around Nissan’s manufacturing plant in Sunderland is set to create more than 6,000 jobs.

Nissan has unveiled the EV36Zero – a £1bn Electric Vehicle (EV) Hub which it says will “accelerate the journey to carbon neutrality”, while also creating 909 jobs at Nissan, 750 at a battery plant and some 4,500 in the supply chain.

The Japanese car giant says it is bringing together a trio of interconnected initiatives, Nissan EV36Zero brings together electric vehicles, renewable energy and battery production, setting a blueprint for the future of the automotive industry.

Envision AESC – the world-leading battery producer and long-standing partner of Nissan – will build a new 9GWh-capacity gigafactory equipped with state of the art battery technology

A renewable energy ‘Microgrid’ will also deliver 100% clean electricity for manufacturing at the plant.

The plans also involve the use of 2nd life EV batteries as energy storage for ultimate sustainability
