A major manufacturing site on Deeside has gone up for sale with the company confirming it will close later this year with the loss of more than 160 jobs.

In January Mondi said it was launching a consultation on closing its packaging operations at the Deeside Industrial Park, with 167 jobs at risk, and in Nelson, Lancashire, with 41 jobs affected.

The 168,000 sq ft manufacturing and distribution facility in North Wales this week went on the market with commercial agent Legat Owen.

Mondi confirmed that the consultation had been concluded earlier this year and they plan to cease operations at its Deeside and Nelson sites in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ by the second half of 2020.

A Mondi spokesman said: “Mondi sees no alternative but to cease operations at Deeside and Nelson. Mondi has implemented various strategic initiatives over the past two years to streamline operations and enhance the cost-competitiveness of both sites.

“However due to the change in demand for the niche products produced at these sites, the closure will take place in the second half of 2020.

“Throughout this process, Mondi has had constructive engagement with its employee representatives and its recognised union, Unite.

“The closure will impact around 200 employees. Mondi understands this is a particularly challenging time for employees and their families and is committed to treating people fairly throughout the closure process.
