An automotive manufacturer is creating up to 40 new jobs as part of plans to expand its operations at a new R&D centre in Welshpool.

YASA, part of Mercedes-Benz, will significantly expand its operations from the new centre based at Offa’s Dyke Business Park.

The new research and development centre opened following a £1.98m investment from the Welsh Government.

The firm, which manufactures advanced electric motors and motor controllers for hybrid and electric vehicles, will lease the new building.

Constructed by mid-Wales building contractors Pave Aways, the building will include rooms designed for high-velocity impacts which will stress test motors.

YASA currently employs 15 engineers from its base in Welshpool and anticipates it will almost treble its workforce at its new base.

Chief executive of YASA Chris Harris said: “We have been operating in Welshpool since 2016 and it continues to be a hub of engineering talent for us."
