Construction is well underway in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ on mammoth elements of Triton Knoll offshore wind farm.

Key infrastructure for the two substations that will sit within the arrays off the Lincolnshire coast is being produced in the North East and Scotland.

The foundation work has been taken on by Smulders in Wallsend, a company highly experienced in the delivery of components to the rapidly expanding industry.

Work starts as up in Scotland, JGC completes container modules for the large structures that link the individual turbines with the major export cables to bring power back to land.

The modules will house the critical electrical equipment and are purpose-built to cope with the rigours of the offshore environment.

In a project update, Innogy said they have now been successfully fitted onto the decks of the two offshore substations, to be installed in the near North Sea next year.

JGC, of Thurso, was subcontracted by Manchester-based Siemens Transmission and Distribution, the company that won the substation contract, as well as the onshore works, located close to Boston.

Both offshore substation platforms, and each of the wind farm’s 90 offshore turbine foundations, will also be fitted with davit crane units designed and built by Granada Materials Handling, continuing the long-term involvement of another Manchester-based manufacturer with Innogy’s offshore wind farms.
