Leicestershire brick-maker Ibstock prepares to furlough ‘significant proportion’ of staff

It follows the closure of manufacturing sites across the º£½ÇÊÓƵ

Ibstock is a major brick-making company with manufacturing sites across the country

A Leicestershire brick manufacturer has said it is progressing plans to furlough a “significant proportion” of its staff after completing the shutdown of all its º£½ÇÊÓƵ sites.

Ibstock Brick, which is based in Leicester Road, Ibstock, closed all of its manufacturing locations in support of the Government’s efforts to bring the coronavirus pandemic under control.

Now, in a statement to investors, the listed company has said it is “actively progressing” plans to furlough many of its staff.

The statement also confirms that its board and executive leadership team have taken a 20% pay reduction for three months.

It added that it would not be recommending the payment of the final dividend for its latest financial year.

The statement said: "In support of the º£½ÇÊÓƵ Government's initiatives to bring the pandemic under control, to protect the health and well-being of colleagues and in response to the construction industry backdrop, the orderly shutdown of our manufacturing sites across the º£½ÇÊÓƵ is now complete.

"A skeleton staff is in place at the sites during the shutdown period to ensure that safety and security is maintained.

"We welcome the action taken by the Government to preserve employment and are actively progressing our participation in the job retention scheme as part of our plans to support colleagues through the crisis period.
