An award-winning brewery is closing after 14 years in business.

Derventio Brewery, in Darley Abbey, is being shut down and the remaining stock sold off.

Owners John Baldock and Pete Nash announced that they were retiring and closing the business.

Named after a Roman fort by the same name in Little Chester, Derventio was home to the apricot flavoured awarding-winning Cleopatra beer, which took gold in the Society of Independent Brewer Midlands Region Beer Competition in 2010.

On the brewery website, John and Pete said: “We have mashed for the last time folks and have decided to take the opportunity to retire.

“We have had some great support and would like to thank those who have been there for us and are proud of our achievements.

“We are looking forward to seeing you on the other side of the bar for a change.”

John and Pete worked for British Rail before they began brewing together in March 2006.
