JCB unveils new safety measures as production resumes

'Low level' production has re-started at five º£½ÇÊÓƵ factories

JCB employees will be issued with face masks

Digger-giant JCB has unveiled a comprehensive list of new safety measures being introduced at its º£½ÇÊÓƵ factories as production re-starts at a 'low level'.

The Staffordshire manufacturer is rolling out a string of new measures in the wake of the coronavirus crisis to protect employees on their return to work.

From today, production is partially re-starting at five JCB factories in Rocester, Cheadle, Uttoxeter and Wrexham. The move will see the return of around 400 employees.

The 'far-reaching package' of safety measures will see employees self-assess for Covid-19 symptoms before leaving home and undergo temperature checks overseen by medical staff on their arrival at work.

Surgical masks will be issued to all employees while visors will also be provided for shop floor staff for extra protection. Staff who can work from home will be encouraged to do so where possible.

Other measures include the widespread provision of hand sanitiser, clearly-marked walkways and a reduction in office desks to maximise social distancing as well as the closure of canteen facilities and vending machines and the suspension of car-sharing schemes.

Lavatory hand dryers will also be swapped in favour of paper towels.

In a step further, JCB is also looking to introduce thermal imaging cameras later this month.
