Jaguar Land Rover’s boss has revealed the car maker will close its British factories for a week in November to cope with Brexit.

Dr Ralf Speth revealed the plan today while he was formally opening the Coventry car maker’s new Advanced Product Creation Centre in Gaydon, Warwickshire.

The move will come as now big surprise in the automotive world, where car makers are busy making preparations for any disruption resulting from a no-deal Brexit.

Asked whether the firm was thinking about shutting its British factories in the month after Brexit is due to take place on October 31, Mr Speth said: “We cannot think about it, we just have to do it.”

When questioned further on the closure Mr Speth said it would last for a week.

The week-long closure, which will take place from November 4, was subsequently  by the company.

A Jaguar Land Rover spokesman said: “Jaguar Land Rover confirms that it will be suspending production at all º£½ÇÊÓƵ manufacturing plants for one week commencing 4 November 2019.

"This prudent decision reflects the need to adjust production in the face of ongoing uncertainty caused by global external headwinds, including Brexit, which have impacted our sales volumes.”
