More than 260 agency staff are set to leave Jaguar Land Rover鈥檚 factory in Solihull over the coming weeks.

One employee told the Mail the workers 鈥渉ad no idea鈥 they would be laid off and assumed they were being transferred to other parts of the luxury car manufacturer.

The news comes just weeks after JLR announced it was investing 拢100 million to transfer production of the Jaguar XE from Solihull to Castle Browmich, a move

It is understood 67 agency staff have left the Solihull plant with a further 200 from the Manpower agency set to go in the coming weeks.

One Solihull-based worker said: 鈥淲e had no idea this was coming.

鈥淲e knew the company was behind on certain models, like the Discovery, and that the XE was going to Castle Bromwich but we assumed we鈥檇 get moved across to another part.

鈥淪o it was a surprise when JLR just said 鈥楴o, that鈥檚 it鈥.鈥

A statement from the company added: 鈥淥ver the coming weeks, some Manpower agency employees will see their temporary assignments at Solihull come to an end as we exit a very busy launch phase for the plant and return to normalised production volumes.

鈥淪olihull鈥檚 planned production schedule sees the plant remain on a three-shift, 24-hour pattern, utilising a workforce which has doubled in the last five years and we have no foreseeable plan to change that.鈥
