Production at two Jaguar Land Rover factories is set to be reduced in response to fluctuating global demand for its cars.

The luxury car maker described the move as "minor changes" to its production schedules at its plants in Solihull and Castle Bromwich, north Birmingham.

Information from a staff briefing, seen by BusinessLive, suggests the changes will mean shutdowns for various individual half days and full days during the coming weeks rather than wholesale shutdowns for extended periods.

A spokeswoman told BusinessLive the changes would affect Solihull between now and the end of March and Castle Bromwich between the end February and the end of March.

The Castle Bromwich plant makes only Jaguar cars while Solihull is responsible for Land Rover and Range Rover models and the Jaguar SUV.

A statement from the company said: "Through its ongoing transformation programme, Jaguar Land Rover is taking action to optimise performance, enable sustainable growth and safeguard the long-term success of our business.

"The external environment remains challenging for our industry and the company is taking decisive actions to achieve the necessary operational efficiencies to safeguard long-term success.
