An insurance giant is taking delivery of hundreds of Derbyshire-built Toyota cars as it looks to make its vehicle fleet greener.

Allianz Insurance, one of the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s largest general insurers has reached an agreement with Toyota and Lexus Fleet Services to take delivery of up to 200 vehicles a year as it transitions its fleet away from diesel power.

The firm, part of the Allianz Group, has selected the hybrid-powered Corolla and Corolla Touring Sports models, both of which are manufactured at Burnaston, near Derby.

The agreement, which will run through to 2023, will also see Allianz acquire hybrid Lexus models.

Bettina Gross, head of procurement at Allianz Insurance, said: “At Allianz we are committed to creating a more sustainable future.

“Our large vehicle fleet is a key area of our business where we can take positive steps to reduce our environmental impact.

“We have been impressed by the real-world efficiency of the Toyota and Lexus hybrids, the quality of the vehicles and the reliable and thorough support the company provides for its fleet customers.”

Allianz has more than 800 fleet company car drivers who meet the prerequisite of covering 8,000 miles a year.
