Engineering group Hill & Smith has acquired Black Country manufacturer Signature for £12.5 million.

Based in Oldbury, Signature was a subsidiary of Plastic Omnium and specialises in the development, manufacture, installation and maintenance of street lighting columns, road sign and traffic management systems.

Shirley-based Hill & Smith makes infrastructure products such as barriers, car park systems and fencing and this latest deal is its third in eight months.

Last month, Hill & Smith announced it had bought Powys-based security product manufacturer Technocover for £10 million while last November it revealed it had acquired Hull-based Premier Galvanizing for £15.5 million.

In 2015, Signature recorded turnover of £14.8 million and the acquisition is expected to be earnings enhancing to the group in the first full financial year following the acquisition.

Derek Muir, group chief executive of Hill & Smith, said: "Signature has an excellent range of long established products which will complement our existing product offering into the º£½ÇÊÓƵ roads market."
