A Merseyside firm making brake discs for supercars has been awarded a multimillion-pound contract - as well as landing another deal with Swedish brand Koenigsegg for its new 300mph high-performance vehicle.

Surface Transforms said the new contract with the unnamed manufacturer to supply ceramic brake discs would be worth £6m.

The contract award by the manufacturer, referred to as "OEM 6", is for a "limited edition" car to be produced for three years from 2021.

To add to that, due to delays on a previous contract, OEM 6 also agreed to pay Knowsley-based Surface Transforms a commercial settlement of £300,000 relating to the direct cost of discs.

The business said while that adds £300k to its near-term cash pile, it will not impact the gross margin levels expected this year. That existing contract is still expected to generate revenues to the firm of around £2m over two years starting in 2020.

These two contracts provide an order book of around £8m with OEM 6 over the next five years, the firm said - and discussions continue regarding other future models with "significantly higher" anticipated production volumes.

As well as that, the firm has also been nominated as tier one supplier for Koenigsegg's new Jesko supercar.
