Cornwall's Pendennis Shipyard builds £13m 'explorer' superyacht

Project Fox is a 35m expedition-style vessel which is already being marketed by international broker Burgess

How Pendennis Shipyard's Project Fox will look on completion

Cornwall’s Pendennis Shipyard is building a £13m superyacht which comes with its own DJ station and wine cellar - and is looking for a buyer.

The company is part way through constructing the 35m expedition-style vessel Project Fox at its Falmouth facility. The luxurious boat, which will accommodate eight guests in four cabins, is due to be completed by the spring of 2023.

Pendennis Shipyard is already marketing the vessel, and has brought in global luxury yacht broker Burgess to sell it. An asking price of 15.5m euros - about £13.15m - has been placed on the vessel.

The vessel is termed an “explorer” yacht, which means it is designed for long-distance voyages, including to remote areas. It is named after one of Falmouth's most famous sons: Robert Were Fox the Younger, a 19th Century scientist who invented a compass that measured magnetic dip at sea in high latitudes, and guided the expedition that discovered the South Pole.

Project Fox’s exterior design is “muscular and practical, almost military, in appearance”, but it has “beach-house style” interiors. The 103.5sq m main deck aft enables the boat to carry a huge range of equipment, from watertoys and two 7.5m tenders to amphibious vehicles and submersibles, launched by two 2.5T SWL (safe working load) deck cranes - carrying capacity usually unheard of in a yacht of its size.

The main deck aft has possibilities for relaxation and entertainment. The space includes a DJ station, open-air dining and bar with optional shade from awnings.

A glass-walled family room or media sky lounge, with a wine cellar in the lobby, opens onto a 46sq m terrace with BBQ and open-air dining, as well as walkaround sidedecks that lead to lounge seating forward of the bridge.

The yacht has two owner's suites, both full beam and en-suite. One is forward on the main deck and the second is aft on the lower deck, where there are also two twin guest suites. The vessel features interior and exterior styling from leading interior design specialist Q London.
