Chancellor Rishi Sunak has launched one of his main business-focused Budget announcements in Grimsby.

Coming into force tomorrow, April 1, the super-deduction scheme will give firms a 130 per cent allowance when they invest in plant and machinery.

It equates to a tax bill cut of 25p for every pound spent by expanding businesses creating jobs as part of the recovery.

The Blackrow Engineering call follows a glut of Humber-specific spending this past month, including the £75 million for Able Marine Energy Park at North Killingholme and a further £34 million to support carbon capture and storage across two projects - with a third linking the Energy Estuary with the Tees.

He was given a site tour of the 40-year-old business that has built a national client base as a large-scale engineering specialist behind the food, pharmaceutical and petrochemical sectors.

Mr Sunak said: “The super-deduction is the biggest two-year business tax cut in modern British history – driving our economy by helping businesses to invest, grow and support our Plan for Jobs.

“I urge firms across the º£½ÇÊÓƵ to invest in our recovery by taking advantage of this great opportunity.”

The scheme, announced in his second Budget, also includes a 50 per cent first-year allowance for qualifying special rate assets.
