Burts Snacks signs major deal to supply Costa Coffee with crisps

Fast growing firm with factories in Plymouth and Leicester sees sales hit £54.3m and eyes further growth

Plymouth-headquartered Burts Snacks has signed a nationwide distribution deal with Costa Coffee as it forecasts sales of £54.3million this year.

The contract follows Burts’ £7million investment into the business in 2019, which aided the introduction of a range of new frying and popping techniques across its two manufacturing facilities in Plymouth and Leicester.

The company is still aiming to hit £100million of sales annually by 2022, as demand for its products continues to build and it continues to outperform the crisps, snacks and nuts category.

The new deal means Burts’ top-selling hand cooked crisps, Burts Potato Chips, will be available in four flavours – Sea Salt, Sea Salt and Malted Vinegar, Mature Cheddar and Spring Onion, and Sweet Chilli – at Costa Coffee stores across the country from March 2020.

The announcement marks Burts’ continued success in becoming the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s fastest growing, independent snacking manufacturer.

Simon Knight, sales amd marketing director at Burts Snacks, said: “The growth of the business over the past six years has been extraordinary, and our confirmed distribution with Costa Coffee is a huge step on our journey to achieving sales of £100million in the next two years.

“We’re committed to producing the highest quality snacks using the best local, British ingredients, and to be able to guarantee that consumers across the º£½ÇÊÓƵ can enjoy those products is a testament to our efforts.

“While many of the other snacking manufacturers have consolidated into larger, multi-national portfolios, we are proud to stay true to our core values; remaining independent, family-owned and truly British.”
