British Steel has enhanced its product range offered to the construction sector, providing greater design flexibility to architects and engineers.

The company’s Advance structural sections, manufactured in Scunthorpe and Teesside to carefully controlled standards, now include 71 additional beams and columns, including “often difficult-to-find intermediary dimensions”.

The North Lincolnshire-headquartered team said the latest product innovation is available in both standard and premium weathering grades. Such steel has been used on some of the most iconic structures in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ - with much of London's iconic skyline formed using the products.

Commercial director for construction, Ben Cunliffe, said: “The wide range of sizes and gauges available in our Advance structural sections range gives designers and engineers the flexibility to achieve the most effective structural solutions for their clients.

“Optimising steel structures by precisely matching often difficult-to-find dimensions has the potential to provide sustainable, efficient and cost-reducing solutions through savings in structure weight, fabrication effort and logistical costs.

“Using our high-strength S460M grade, which is available across most sizes, doubles these benefits and allows further optimisation such as wider spans and reduced structure weight.”

British Steel's sections are rolled on a frequent basis to serve projects of varying natures, from the capital's jaw-dropping stadia to more standard builds. A total of 580 tonnes went into the £72 million redevelopment of The Alexander Stadium in Birmigham, the key venue for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
