Birmingham Day March 2014: Profile - CMA Moldform

The firm produces castings for the games Industry, including Hawk Wargames and military models. These fine quality parts are shipped to customers all over the world

More than 25 years ago CMA Moldform started to produce high quality scale models in a very small facility in Birmingham, something which continues to this day.

The scale model department grew and still produces high definition resin, metal and rubber parts for aircraft, trains, cars, tractors, ships and figures in a range of sizes from “T” scale up to ¼ scale.

The firm also produces castings for the games industry, including Hawk Wargames and military models. These fine quality parts are shipped to customers all over the world.

The skills required for the manufacture of collectable resin models which also includes high precision silicone moulds, metal casting and production of rubber components, opened up other industrial markets including automotive, medical, aerospace and electronics to name just a few.

Initially, the form of rapid prototypes were produced mainly from two-part polyurethane and epoxy resins, and have now, over the years, been jointly developed to replicate many forms of injection moulding grades such as ABS.

Components can be chromed, sprayed, silver or gold plated and metallised to supply the customer’s exact type of finish.

Now based at Spitfire Park in Birmingham with over 45,000 square feet of Production Space with a growing workforce, CMA also has two other departments – rapid prototypes/low volume production and specialised artwork

Today, CMA is using numerous two-part resin grades including high impact resistant, flexible, rigid, high temperature resistant and self-coloured materials to replicate subsequent injection moulded parts for high volume production.
