Barratt Developments buys leading wooden frame builder Oregon Timber Frame

Acquisition will help Barratt build more new home elements off-site, to help it grow and mitigate current skills challenges

Oregon is one of the leading timber frame manufacturers in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ

Barratt Developments has bought Oregon Timber Frame, one of the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s biggest makers of wooden frames for the building and construction industry.

Leicestershire’s Barratt said it had moved on the Scottish-headquartered manufacturer to help it meet new targets for building at least a fifth of its homes using elements made off-site – including timber frames – by next year.

Oregon, which has factories in Selkirk and Burton on Trent, makes 2,000 wooden frames for new builds each year, and has around 170 staff.

Joint managing director Kenny Dunkley announced this month it had exceeded its sales targets for 2019 in just six months, an increase in business of 60 per cent on the same time last year.

Oregon will remain based in Scotland

Speaking earlier this month he said: “Our order book looks extremely healthy and despite uncertainty with Brexit it’s very much business as usual with all customers expecting a busy time for the remainder of the year.

“Our second manufacturing facility in Selkirk has space to expand and we are currently recruiting and training to meet our customers growing requirements.”

Oregon is one of Barratt’s key timber frame suppliers and also works with housebuilders such as Taylor Wimpey, Bloor Homes – which is based a few miles up the road from Barratt in Measham – and various big Scottish builders.
