One of the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s largest furniture manufacturers, Scunthorpe’s Lebus Upholstery, is creating 15 new apprenticeship places, with guaranteed job offers once the training is completed.

The company employs nearly 500 people at the large site in the town, and the places are being opened up to 16 to 20 year olds, with September start dates.

They will work towards the Intermediate Apprenticeship Level Two in modern upholstery.

John Brewster, operations director at Lebus, said: “We want to develop local talent to help create our sofas that are in homes across the country.

“Lebus products are designed and manufactured to the highest possible standards. No previous experience is necessary for these positions, so with attractive pay rates, fully supported training, 32 days holiday and a meal allowance for apprentices, Lebus Upholstery is the place to start a career.”

An open day is to be held at the site, on Queensway Industrial Estate off Brigg Road, on Saturday, June 22. Prospective applicants are welcome between 9am and 12pm, with site tours taking place every half hour.

It comes a week after kitchen giant Wren, just down the road in Barton, announced a £1.2 million investment in a new factory, with a potential 1,200 new jobs to be created. Proposals for The Nest site on Falkland Way are now with planners.

Cllr Richard Hannigan, deputy leader of North Lincolnshire Council, welcomed the move. He said: “Our economic growth team are keen to support local businesses looking to upskill their workforce or grow their operations. We’ve been working with Lebus to help them plug their skills gap and find the next generation of furniture-makers right here in North Lincolnshire.
