Aerospace giant Airbus has cut its plane delivery target after identifying issues with the fuselage panels on a "limited number" of its A320 jets.

The manufacturer, which has º£½ÇÊÓƵ bases in Broughton in North Wales and Filton near Bristol, will reduce output to around 790 commercial planes this year - down from a previous estimate of 820.

The French-headquartered company has maintained its full-year guidance and is still targeting operating profitability of around €7.0bn.

The announcement comes as Airbus confirmed a number of A320 planes would be checked following a "supplier quality issue" with metal panels. The company said the issue does not affect flight safety.

It is understood around 600 aircraft will be inspected although not all of those jets will have problems or need repairing.

"The source of the issue has been identified, contained and all newly produced panels conform to all requirements," a spokesperson for Airbus told the BBC.

"Only inspections will determine where an aircraft may have panels with quality issues and the appropriate action to be taken."

The news comes just days after Airbus grounded thousands of jets around the globe for a computer update. Airlines worldwide were forced to cancel and delay flights so the company could carry out immediate fixes to software updates on 6,000 of its A320 planes.
