Airbus Broughton will have a second shutdown this year with production workers placed on furlough.

The aerospace giant's wing factory in North Wales has an annual shutdown for three weeks each summer.

This was brought forward to March when the coronavirus crisis hit as the company weighed up its outlook for future production levels and made site adaptations.

Now Airbus has confirmed the normal summer shutdown at the 6,000 worker site will still take place.

It will cover the last two weeks of July and first week of August with more than 3,000 production staff sent home.

They will be placed on the furlough scheme with the º£½ÇÊÓƵ Government paying 80% of their wages.

Since the last shutdown staff have been on a rolling furlough with all workers due to be back by the start of July.

The coming weeks will see Airbus make global decisions about staffing levels with production reduced by a third for the foreseeable future as the aviation sector grapples with the coronavirus pandemic.
