A team of investors and footballers from Shanghai were welcomed to Birmingham this week during an evening reception hosted by Chinese and dim sum restaurant Chung Ying Central.

The event, held at the restaurant, offered Shanghai football team Clever FC, some of their sponsors and a number of invited dignitaries and business figures from Birmingham the opportunity to network and forge business links between the city and mainland China.

The party visited Birmingham as part of a ten-day history tour of the º£½ÇÊÓƵ which is celebrating the first direct investment into a º£½ÇÊÓƵ football club by mainland China.

The tour also aims to encourage trade and business links between the º£½ÇÊÓƵ and China and will see Clever FC play a team of local ex-professionals in a charity football match at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry on September 14.

James Wong, owner of Chung Ying Central, said: "Birmingham has a strong Chinese community so this was a great opportunity to bring them together with some of our key business figures to greet and forge even stronger friendships with the community in Shanghai. I'm delighted to have been able to play host to this.

"As a memento of their visit to Birmingham, we handed each of our Shanghai guests a special goody bag, kindly donated by the businesses within Southside BID area - the home of Chinatown."
