Young Rewired ART is a youth leadership programme for young people during Young Rewired State’s Festival of Code in Birmingham. Young artists will learn skills and work on collaborative tasks focusing on: Art and Technology.

My name is Amy Martin and I am a young people’s creative producer based in Birmingham and I'm working in partnership with to deliver this exciting creative project.

Enabling the youngest city in Europe to be at the forefront of digital arts engagement with young people as our future audiences and leaders for arts and culture.

Young Rewired ART features 10 young artists from Birmingham taking part in a week-long ‘pressure cooker summer school’ during Young Rewired State’s 'Festival of Code' from 5-11 August.

The project includes workshop in careers in the digital economy, team-working, activism and ideas generation, plus Arduino hack sessions and coding workshops.

These sessions aim to develop transferable skills for the 21st century such as soft skills in resilience and flexibility, skills of an artist such as creativity and collaboration but also digital literacy, which includes the building blocks of technology and the Internet.

Once the group are skilled up and confident they will be tasked to combine their specialisms to design and produce a new piece of digital art, this could be an App, a digital sculpture, or a creative representation of data with support from lead artists Antonio Roberts and Nikki Pugh.

This project will explore how digital media can influence our next generation of musicians, visual artists, dancers, producers & actors etc and enable young people to showcase and develop their creative practice online.
