The FTSE Women Leaders Review is a government-backed report examining the gender balance of FTSE companies

Susan Davy, Chief Executive Pennon Group

Exeter-headquartered water company Pennon Group is among the º£½ÇÊÓƵ's top-performing FTSE-250 companies for gender balance at board level. According to a recent government-backed report, the firm's board is now 62.5% women.

The , published in February, placed Pennon joint-third with tech firm Softcat in the FTSE-250 rankings, behind data and analytics company Ascential (71.4%) and financial services firm Man Group (66.7%).

There are now 87 companies in the FTSE 250 that have four or more women around the board table, with the average board size eight members.

Pennon's chief executive Susan Davy has said companies have an “important role to play” in addressing inequality in the workplace as the º£½ÇÊÓƵ marks International Women’s Day.

International Women’s Day celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, and takes place every year on March 8. This year’s theme is ‘inspire inclusion’.

Ms Davy, who was appointed Pennon group chief executive in 2020, says businesses have a responsibility to create workplaces that “work for everyone”, regardless of gender ethnicity or background.

“I believe that all businesses today have an important role to play in championing diversity and addressing inequality,” she said.

“We need to create workplaces which work for everyone, regardless of gender, ethnicity or background. In doing so, we will ensure that the sector will continue to innovate, bringing together the best minds, and diversity of thought and build a lasting legacy for our customers and communities.”
