Some of the South West’s most established companies have been honoured alongside the region’s most ambitious new and growing businesses at the Western Morning News Business Awards.

Fashion firm Seasalt Cornwall and food producer Prima Bakeries Ltd heralded a double triumph for the duchy by being named as businesses of the year, large and SME respectively, at the black-tie event at Plymouth’s plush Crowne Plaza hotel.

And the coveted Lifetime Achievement honour went to Adrian Vinken, who is bowing out after more than three decades as chief executive at Theatre Royal Plymouth.

Joining him on the winners podium were a galaxy of stars from the region’s business firmament, including such well respected names as Plymouth Argyle FC, Cofton Holidays and Devon Association of Tourist Attractions.

Peter Moody, who has steered development of St Austell Business Park, was named Business Person of the Year.

The event was the latest version of the annual contest designed to honour the brightest and best in the Western Morning News circulation area.

Glamorous guests at the event were guided by awards hosts Kylie Pentelow, the ITV news anchor, and Bill Martin, marketplace publisher for the South at Western Morning News’ parent firm Reach Plc.

And the audience was enthralled by the words of keynote speaker Melissa Thorpe, head of Spaceport Cornwall.
