'We tried our best but in the end had to admit that it was over': Family business enters administration after 45 years

A family business which had been trading for more than 45 years has been placed into administration.

T Wilson and Sons (Farmers) Ltd, which was based in Rainford, had been run by the Wilson family and was established in 1977.

The move comes after its transport division was sold to Preston-based Len Wright Salads which saved 45 jobs.

In its most recently available set of accounts, for the 12 months to April 30, 2020, the company's turnover totalled £10.2m and its pre-tax profits were £2,551.

Writing on LinkedIn, director Rob Wilson said: "It's with a heavy heart I have to announce that the family business of over 45 years T Wilson and sons (farmers) Ltd has been placed into administration tonight.

"We as a family did everything in our powers to turn the business around.

The effects of Covid-19 and the relentless pressures of both retail and food service took its toll that we could not recover from.
