Vodafone the new main jersey sponsor of the Welsh men's rugby team

The long-term deal builds on a deal it struck last to become the principal partner for the women's national team

Telecoms giant Vodafone has struck a new front of jersey principal sponsor deal with the men’s rugby team.

The multi-year agreement with the Welsh Rugby Union, the value of which hasn’t been disclosed, will also see its logo on the jerseys of the men’s u20 and u18 teams.

It builds on a front of jersey sponsorship deal for the Welsh women’s senior team and their age group teams struck last December. Earlier this year Vodafone agreed a front of jersey sponsorship deal for Wales' Rugby World Cup warm up games against England (home and away) and South Africa. However, that has now been extended for the long-term.

The previous jersey main sponsor was car dealership Cazoo.

Chief commercial officer at Vodafone, Max Taylor, said: “Vodafone’s expanded partnership with Welsh Rugby Union now covers both the men’s and women’s game, from grassroots up. With the World Cup just around the corner it is a hugely exciting time for rugby, and we are excited to see how technical innovation can help take player performance, player welfare and fan engagement to the next level.”

Chief executive of the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU), Nigel Walker, added: “We are delighted to have secured Vodafone as our key front of shirt sponsor for the Wales senior men’s side and pathway teams.

“Vodafone’s partnership with and support for our Wales Women’s side and pathway teams, and with Principality Stadium as our digital transformation partner, is already paying huge dividends to Welsh rugby.

“These are exciting times for the game in Wales, with sustainability now established off the field allowing increased potential for long term success on it.
