A North West bathroom retailer that started in a garden shed has reported record financial results for the past year - growing revenues to £151m and increasing profit by almost 200% in 2019.

Victorian Plumbing said the news means it's now positioned as the largest online bathroom retailer in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ - something it described as a "significant achievement in what has been a difficult year for the bathroom industry".

A spokesman said the company had outperformed expectations calling it a "great year", in which revenue grew by 28% from 2018's £118m, with profit rising to £10.1m - up from £3.5m the year before.

Mark Radcliffe, managing director of Victorian Plumbing, based in Formby, Merseyside, said: “I’m really pleased to stop and assess what we have achieved, from humble beginnings in a garden shed to the largest º£½ÇÊÓƵ bathroom retailer.

The team at Merseyside firm Victorian Plumbing

"It’s a real testament to the team's efforts and relentless pursuit of perfection. It’s been a year when competitors have pointed the finger at a variety of factors such as the housing market, Brexit and consumer confidence, but the fact that we’ve succeeded where they haven’t shows that it’s our staff and people that make the difference.

"We constantly aim to be better than the competition in all areas with exciting targets set by the teams and so much care and pride throughout. I’m really excited about the future of Victorian Plumbing, with much more still to come.”

According to the firm, which was named by Retail Week as Britain's most productive retailer ahead of ASOS and Aldi, growth and profitability remain "key targets".
