Upmarket service stations group vows to 'keep prices affordable' after sales surge to new record

Sales at a group behind upmarket service stations rocketed to record levels during its latest financial year.

Cumbria-based Westmorland operates Tebay Services, Gloucester Services, Ciam Lodge Services, J38 Truck Stop, Tebay Services Hotel and the Rheged Centre.

The group's turnover, including equity accounted investments, surged from £76.8m to £142.7m in the 12 months to July 3, 2022, according to newly-filed documents with Companies House.

Its pre-tax profits also jumped from £2.3m to £9.1m over the same period.

The the last full year not impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, Westmorland's turnover totalled £104.6m and its pre-tax profits were £3.2m.

The number of people employed by the group also rose from 857 to 1,056 in its latest financial year.

A statement signed off by the board said: "The business returned to growth as the world began to travel again, with customers appreciating our unique offer of local produce and proper food on the motorway.
