University of Derby secures national accolade for its support for small businesses

The university’s Derby Business School is awarded Small Business Charter

The University of Derby’s Business School has secured a national accolade recognising its support for small businesses and developing entrepreneurial skills in its students.

Derby Business School, which offers internships and placements as part of its career and employability service, has been awarded the Small Business Charter.

It operates, the Derby Internship Programme, which is a significant programme with more 1,400 students engaged over the last three years.

Over half of the small businesses involved gave students a part-time or full-time role after the internship.

The business school was also recognised for its teaching facilities and community business links.

For example, its Banks Mill innovation and digital studios is now fully occupied by students, graduates and creative entrepreneurs.

The business school has strong connections with stakeholders in Derby, resulting in events and workshops in the local area, supporting small businesses and entrepreneurship in the region.

Some of these partners include the FSB, East Midlands Chamber, CBI, Princes Trust, D2N2 LEP, Erewash Partnership, and Destination Chesterfield.
