Town's High Street back open after completion of £750,000 regeneration scheme

The scheme saw roads resurfaced and new paving installed in Burton-upon-Trent

Burton High Street

A £750,000 regeneration scheme to revitalise Burton's town centre has been completed.

The High Street scheme - which was announced in November 2020 - included the resurfacing of the road between Worthington Way and New Street and the installation of new footway paving.

High Street was closed for the duration of the works but it has now fully reopened.

And in a separate scheme, a bus gate has been completed on High Street meaning only buses and cyclists are now able to enter between its junction with Manor Croft and New Street and its junction with Worthington Way.

Taxis and delivery vehicles can access High Street from 4pm to 10am.

Staffordshire County Council's cabinet member for highways and transport David Williams said: "It is fantastic that our continued regenerative work with East Staffordshire Borough Council is bringing such successful results; with the High Street improvements following those in Station Street.

"The project team has managed to continue working on safely through the pandemic period to get the job done.
