Birmingham's tourism economy is set to receive a boost this summer as the city embarks on a substantial programme of arts and cultural events.

100 Days of Creativity will kick off on May 19, which is the final day of the Flatpack Film Festival, and run until the end of Birmingham Weekender on August 26.

The initiative will have an extensive programme of artistic events, activities, workshops, exhibitions, music, dance, theatre and film.

Among the highlights will be Birmingham Design Festival, the biennial celebration of design held across the city centre, and musical Hamilton which is having a ten-week run at the Hippodrome.

The historic Ikon gallery will host the first major solo exhibition by British artist Dion Kitson and Birmingham-born singer and musician Apache Indian will perform a show at Midlands Arts Centre.

100 Days of Creativity is being run with support from a host of organisations including West Midlands Growth Company, Greater Birmingham Chambers and Southside District, Colmore, Central and Jewellery Quarter business improvement districts.

The event's curator Alex Nicholson-Evans said: "Together with our partners, we've created a programme which showcases the incredible range of creative activities that you can engage with in Birmingham.
