A Devon-based maker of timber-framed buildings has acquired a Bristol business established by one its late co-founders.

Carpenter Oak Build has taken over Xylotek - a timber specialist founded in 2018 by the late Charley Brentnall, Oscar Emanuel and Martin Self.

Mr Brentnall, who died from cancer at the age of 67 in March, also co-founded Buckfastleigh's Carpenter Oak Build, which was established in 1987.

Xylotek has worked on commissions for more experimental timber-framed structures, including internationally. The company's projects include the ABBA Voyage arena in London and the Guangzhou Garden that won gold at the Chelsea flower show in 2021.

Xylotek's team includes experts in architecture and timber design engineering.

The deal was agreed with the support of business advisory practice ReSolve, and finalised on 31st July 2024. The sum of the transaction has not been disclosed.

Carpenter Oak said the acquisition "levels up" its scalability for international growth in timber construction and "preserves the future" of a valuable timber specialist.

Luke Copley-Wilkins, managing director at Carpenter Oak Build, said: “Xylotek has a unique proposition, serving an important gap in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ construction market. Many leading architects, engineers and clients want to build from wood to decarbonise the built environment and for aesthetic reasons, but prior to Xylotek there was a noticeable lack of suitable expertise in the supply chain.
