A South West based metal recycling company has rebranded and expanded - and landed a national contract.

Plymouth-based Aussie Scrap Metal is now called Aussie Metal Management and has expanded into the commercial market, a move which has already paid dividends with the awarding of a new nationwide contract.

Set up in 1997 by Alan “Aussie” Tunks, who moved to Devon from Australia the business originally handled domestic scrap metal collections.

In 2007 his son Beau Tunks joined the business and now runs it with his partner, Sara.

The business has grown growing from a small Plymouth-based family

business into a recycling company with national coverage handling complex metal recycling projects, hence the need to rename as Aussie Metal Management.

It has just won a nationwide contract servicing 240 garage sites, which will provide full compliance with waste disposal requirements, saving a considerable amount of time and effort across the company.

Metal wastage is an area where considerably more recycling could take place. Mr Tunks said, and Aussie Metal Management regularly undertakes metal clearance from farms, boatyards, factories and hospitals where waste metal is likely to accumulate.
